Schools' Week

This March, Kiln Theatre will be buzzing with students and teachers from the local community, with a week of free activities helping to demystify the industry.

Students and teachers will be exploring the rehearsal room process and backstage and offstage roles in theatre. Synergy Theatre Project will also be presenting He Said She Said, with schools performances Tue 7 – Fri 10 March, and public performances Fri 10 – Sat 11 March.

He Said She Said fuses dialogue, verse and drill exploring how social media platforms can be used and misused to share information and escalate conflict.

The Great Wave by Francis Turnly – student set-text workshop

When 10am-11.30am

Who Students aged 13+ (open to students outside of Brent)

Where Rehearsal Room

Creatives from The Great Wave production (originally directed by Kiln Theatre Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham) and Kiln Theatre Creative Engagement team will lead a workshop supporting the exploration of the text for Component 3 of the GCSE exam.

 

Teachers technical skills surgery

When 5pm – 7.30pm

Join us for a surgery with the Kiln Theatre Production staff and freelance Designers to support the teaching of backstage roles in the classroom. They’ll be available to answer your questions regarding all things technical theatre, including lighting, sound, set & costume Design.

Inside the rehearsal room: working with a performance text student workshop

When 10am – 11.30am or 12pm – 1.20pm

In this workshop with a Kiln Theatre Director and actor, get insights into the process of the rehearsal room and working with a text for performance.

Creative careers fair

When 11am – 1pm

Who Students aged 13+

Where John Lyons Space

Students are invited to journey through a careers carousel to increase their awareness of offstage roles in theatre. Meet staff from across Kiln Theatre, take part in an activity related to the role and ask questions. Departments represented include: Artistic, Production, Marketing, Fundraising, Operations, Finance.

Technical skills workshop

Explore lighting, costume, props, sound and stage management with the Kiln Theatre Production Team in a hands-on technical skills workshop.
