“It’s like a Restoration comedy run through a John Waters filter and sprinkled with Luis Buñuel itching powder.” The New York Times

The king of British weird returns! Every one of Peter Strickland’s films creates a strikingly new world, while also weaving a consistent thread of the sensuous, the uncanny and the unthinkable. After his fetish fantasia The Duke of Burgundy and his department store nightmare In Fabric, comes Flux Gourmet, a return to the world of sound after the blood-curdling Berberian Sound Studio.

Taking us to a research centre for “sonic cooking”, we are introduced to a creative collective who look to coax sound from salmon mousse. A madhouse presided over by Jan (Gwendoline Christie), the strange complaints of the musicians and personnel – including Asa Butterfield, Fatma Mohamed, Richard Bremmer, Makis Papadimitriou and Ariane Labed – give this a fevered, hilarious feel. For lovers of the films of Peter Greenaway and anyone who has psychic visions during Masterchef.
