“The Oscar nominee is on excellent form in a sweet-natured Cinderella tale” The Guardian

After finally being internationally recognised for her role in Phantom Thread, Lesley Manville once again enters the world of haute couture with this charming tale of finding joy against the odds.

Mrs Harris (Manville) is a cleaning woman in post-war London, who covets a bespoke Dior dress. When her number unexpectedly comes up, she hotfoots it to Paris with encouragement from friend Vi (Kiln’s The Wife of Willesden’s Ellen Thomas). But she finds herself frozen out by Dior director Madame Colbert (icy arthouse queen Isabelle Huppert). But she rises above, finding time to play cupid for a younger couple and perhaps a love interest of her own (Lambert Wilson).

Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan (whose credits run from Merchant Ivory to Mad Max: Fury Road) worked extensively with the Dior archive to bring a rare authenticity and specificity to the costuming. For those on the lookout for a midlife take on the charms of Emily in Paris, backed by world-class acting, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris is a stitch up.
