Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal star as Jeanette and Jerry, a married couple in small-town 1960s Montana. When he loses his job, and sense of purpose, Jerry joins the local effort to put out a nearby forest fire.

As Jeanette tries to keep her head above water, their teenage son is forced to watch the gradual dissolution of his parents’ marriage.
