★★★★ ‘Agnieszka Holland’s brutal and timely drama shines a dark spotlight on the horrors faced by refugees.’  The Guardian

A geopolitical nightmare seen through the eyes of those who move through it, Agnieszka Holland (The Secret Garden) has crafted a deeply sensitive film about the plight of refugees in Europe.

As is fitting for a horror that affects so many, Holland’s film is a mosaic portrait of those who are struggling to cross into Poland from Belarus. Syrians, Afghans and Africans are all caught in the brutal political game where those who make it across the Polish border are pushed back, under the cover of the Białowieża Forest, the ‘green border’ that holds many dark secrets.

Shot in stunning black and white and with close attention to the dehumanising effect these policies have, Holland’s film was highly controversial in Poland for articulating the realities of migration.
