Digger

“The most bonkers film of the year.”★★★★ The Telegraph

“Superbly scurrilous black comedy” ★★★★ Time Out

Tom Cruise enters a new phase of his stardom with this whip-smart satire from the director of The Revenant. Digger Rockwell (Cruise) is a plutocrat oil magnate, a man who need only blink an eye for his will to be done. Yet his ecological interventions have unleashed a catastrophic disaster, one that he is keen to control the narrative about (and if absolutely necessary, help remedy the situation itself).

In films as diverse as Amores Perros, Babel and the Oscar-winning Birdman Alejandro González Iñárritu has maintained a singular cinematic eye and a godlike view on human events (made literal here with an expansive VistaVision frame). Like a modern Dr Strangelove, Cruise transforms himself to embody the folly of the titans ruining our planet, pursued by an impressive line up of toadies (Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons and Michael Stuhlbarg).
