Flawless tragicomedy of male friendship gone sour ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ – The Guardian
Back by popular demand, Director Martin McDonagh’s Golden Globe-winning The Banshees of Inisherin returns to Kiln for an extended run.
A seamless blend of comedy and tragedy make for an emotional rollercoaster and likely contender in the 2023 awards season. Banshees sees Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson reunite on screen once more after appearing in McDonagh’s 2008 debut feature In Bruges.
It’s 1923 in post-civil-war Ireland on the fictional isle of Inisherin. lifelong friends Pádraic and Colm are inseparable drinking partners who enjoy daily visits to the pub together. That is until Colm abruptly ends their friendship, and the pair find themselves at a deadlock.
Depressed by a fear of time ‘running out’ as he ages, Colm is determined to channel his efforts into being productive with his musical gift as a fiddler, and vows to free himself from the ‘aimless chatting’ of Pádraic. Bewildered by this stern change of heart, Pádraic makes several attempts to rekindle their friendship, but with each failure, a layer of his goodhearted nature strips away. And now, where there was love, there is vengeance.
