Kiln’s flagship programme,Minding the Gap, which has been running for over 10 years, is a drama project for young people aged 14-19 who are newly arrived in the UK, with lived experience of migration and/or who identify as refugees and asylum seekers from Kiln’s partner schools and colleges in Brent.  We work with six local schools and colleges EAL/ ESOL departments to provide creative drama-based sessions, which aim to develop students’ creativity, confidence in spoken English, self-pride and engagement in arts and culture.

Over 100 young people will come together to share and perform the devised work they have created over the last six months with creative practitioners. They will perform work which speaks to being lost and found in London, including the young people’s journeys and experiences living in London, a courtroom drama about stolen riches and the justice system, a supernatural thriller about a family who visit a haunted location, young people who live in a fantasy world and must solve clues and challenges in order to get back to the real world and a party which goes wrong!

The performances of this work coincide with World Performance Week. Our performances will be part of national events to celebrate the cultural, artistic and educational value of Drama and schools, and of Theatre for children and young audiences as championed through the Drama, Theatre and Education Alliances Seize the Day campaign.
