Creative Engagement

Youth and Pathways

The Youth & Pathways programme aims to develop the next generation of young people, practitioners and audiences in Brent. Young people have the opportunity to make friends, develop their confidence and their theatre making skills through workshops, training and performing in theatre and film productions.

Through our Youth Theatre (performance opportunities for 12-15 year olds), Young Company (16-18 and 19-25 year olds working towards a theatre production), Kiln Collaborators (paid creative facilitation training for 16-21 year olds), Fullworks (work experience weeklong programme for 14-16 year olds) and Placements (in partnership with Further and Higher Education centres), young people in Brent will have access to high quality writing, directing, performing and theatre making experiences which build skills and nurture ambition and creativity.

The Youth and Pathways programme provides a safe space for stories to be shared and a platform for young people’s voices to be heard in their communities. By involving young people at the heart of our programme we hope they will be encouraged to feel ownership of Kiln’s building and empowered to engage in the artistic and creative engagement programme.

We are committed to creating direct and transparent pathways into Kiln and out to the wider theatre ecology . By giving access to high quality work experience and placements with theatre professionals we will highlight routes into creative careers. Working with partner organisations and schools, we will target recruitment to reach young people who experience barriers to engagement and are underrepresented in the industry. By creating inclusive opportunities at a young age, we hope to encourage diversity in our audience and in the creative industries which reflect the global society we live in – creating a cohort of life-long theatre goers and theatre makers.
