A definitive statement from one of world cinema’s greats, Martin Scorsese’s (Taxi Driver, The Irishman) epic drama tells the tale of the Native American Osage tribe in the 1920s. The rare group of indigenous peoples with mineral rights to their land, they were overnight millionaires from oil discovered on their territory. But this good fortune did not go unnoticed by the white Americans, who begin to use insidious methods to bleed them dry. At the heart of this hideous business are William (Robert De Niro), his nephew Ernest (Leonard DiCaprio) and his native wife Molly (Lily Gladstone, Certain Women). Untangling this viperous mess is Tom (Jesse Plemons, The Power of the Dog), an agent with the fledgling FBI. Getting to the truth will lead him to the blackened heart of the United States.

Having debuted at Cannes to rapturous notices, Scorsese’s adaptation of David Grann’s true crime story has a careful eye to the broader implications of this tale for the Native American community who were ravaged by these crimes. Sweeping, assured and beautifully detailed, this period drama is sure to be a major Oscar contender, and another major work from one of the great directors.
