Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) works alongside her patron Dodin (Benoît Magimel), creating sumptuous dishes that redefine French cuisine at the end of the nineteenth century. Despite their deep feeling for each other, Dodin’s proposals to Eugénie have been rebuffed many times. But Dodin has plans to create a life-changing meal that will secure her love.

Recalling such food on film delights as Babette’s Feast and a less syrupy Chocolat, The Taste of Things is a truly swoonsome pleasure, exquisitely French without a hint of cliché. Director  Trần Anh Hùng (The Scent of Green Papaya) closely follows the preparation of meals, building a portrait of loving care.
