“Kate Winslet is remarkable” ★★★★ The Observer

The many lives of model-turned-war-photographer Lee Miller require a deft hand to weave together. Cinematographer Ellen Kuras (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) delivers on these complexities – told in fittingly impactful visuals – matched by a stirringly gritty and a profound central performance from Kate Winslet.

As Miller tells her story to an interviewer (Josh O’Connor) late in life, she explains how she switched sides of the lens, from modelling for Man Ray to travelling to Europe to record the Second World War for Life magazine. Miller’s skill at capturing the small, telling details of the horrors of war (especially its effects on women) were put to devastating use as one of the first civilian witnesses to the Nazi concentration camps. The mark this left on Miller is brought to vivid life in this beautiful tribute to the people who allow us to see the world as it is.
