The movement of glaciers is contrasted with the short moment of human existence in this moving nature documentary. Based on Icelandic poet Andri Snær Magnason’s writings and family archive footage, it shows the Icelanders’ deep connection with the land. From his grandparents’ love blossoming on its largest glacier, to his children playing in its shadow, we get a rare glimpse of the generational shifts in the natural world.
From the director of the charming and poignant Fire of Love, Time and Water follows a similar interweaving of man and nature. The stunning cinematography captures the magnitude of the shifts in the natural world, as the family’s life is played out against the fragile glacier. Stirring and life-affirming, this is a superb nature documentary that asks searching questions about our effect on the natural world.
