In this three film season – to coincide with our new theatre production Table 17 – we take a look at three modern classics of Black love. Whether you’re feeling loved up or need to have your faith in romance restored, these are stories of falling head over heels and what comes after. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood set out to make ‘the Black When Harry Met Sally…’ with her debut feature, and hit her mark with this tender tale of hoop dreams and love hearts. A slow-burn cult classic, this is one to discover if you need your faith in love reinvigorating.

Love Jones

30 September

Love Jones has become beloved for its genuine take on Black love, never falling into cliché or cheap gags (despite the great comedy throughout). With a soundtrack dripping with ‘90s R&B classics, this is a brilliant nostalgic trip that is as fresh today as on release.
