The Cove is an exposé of the annual killing of over 2,000 dolphins in a National Park in Taiji, Japan. Directed by former National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos, the documentary won the U.S. Audience Award at the 25th annual Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. The film follows the former dolphin trainer for “Flipper,” Ric O’Barry who after the success of the international series felt responsible for starting the dolphin mania across the globe that led to the massacre of the dolphins. ‘The Cove’ follows his attempts to document the huntings resulting with a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery that adds up to an urgent plea for hope.
