Peanut Butter & Blueberries Cinema Season
The Kiln Cinema is proud to present a programme of two recent, brilliant stories of love which both have British Muslims as their protagonists to screen alongside Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan’s new play Peanut Butter & Blueberries, which comes to our stage in August 2024. These two titles were carefully selected by the play’s creative team to explore representations of what it means to love as a Muslim living in the reality of Britain’s socioeconomic, political and racial landscape, echoing the themes of the play.
Films
20 August | Ali & Ava
Set in Bradford, Ali & Ava sees a widowed teaching assistant (Claire Rushbrook, Secrets and Lies) falling in love with a landlord (Adeel Akhtar, Four Lions) adrift in his life, in a modest, timeless story that transcends class and culture. We’ll also be joined by Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan for an introductory conversation about depictions of northern England’s Pakistani Muslim diaspora on stage and screen before the screening.
27 August | After Love
The debut feature from Aleem Khan stars Joanna Scanlan (The Thick Of It, Getting On) as Mary Hussain, a white British convert to Islam, left to discover her husband’s secret family overseas following his sudden death.
