Breakfast at Tiffany’s (PG)
USA/ 1961/ 114 mins/ Dir Blake Edwards
Cast: Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Patricia Neal

From the magical opening shot of a deserted 5th Avenue at dawn, where Audrey Hepburn steps out of a cab to gaze through Tiffany’s window, to a closing scene that would make a hard-hearted dog-owner weep, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, 50 years on, remains the gemstone of Hollywood romances. Audrey Hepburn leads as Holly Golightly – the call-girl shunning the realities of her tragic past with genuine class and pathos. She totally captivates both the audience and George Peppard – who plays a writer destined to be her ‘Huckleberry friend’. The film has done more for Givenchy than any multi-million dollar ad-campaign, and Hepburn certainly looks stunningly chic throughout. However, when she dons a lampshade in a 5&10 Store and still looks adorable, it’s clear the luminous actress, not the clothes, maketh the movie.
