Tim Robinson’s brand of bizarre, cringe comedy – seen in Netflix’s I Think You Should Leave – finds a new home in offbeat story of male connection gone absurd. Craig (Robinson) is living a stable life with wife and son when a connection sparks with new neighbour Austin (Paul Rudd), a local weatherman and – in Craig’s eyes – an all-time great guy. But things take a turn towards Fatal Attraction when Austin puts the breaks on their burgeoning bromance.
Playing like a detuned and surreal version of Paul Rudd’s other bromance classic I Love You, Man, this is a comedy willing to go to wild places to get some genuine laughs. The ways that men bond are ripe for satire, as well as the many delusions that they project into life and that life projects into them. Friendship takes these themes and juggles them into a delightful, constantly surprising laugh-filled ride.
