“King Hedley II dazzles you with its revelations about the world we live in and the music of its language.  A grand, impassioned play, its finds fertile ground in a blasted corner of the American landscape.” Wall Street Journal

“Only God may strike the chords that reverberate throughout the scheme of life, but Mr Wilson renders the human notes with more than a touch of divinity.” New York Times

“In telling the story of African-Americans in the 20th century, he has become on of our greatest playwrights.” John Lahr, The New Yorker

A searing glimpse into the breakdown of a family in the 1980s King Hedley II is the most recent in August Wilson’s cycle of plays chronicling each decade of the 20th century black American experience.  His last play, Jitney, created a sensation at the National Theatre, adding an Olivier Award to the two Pulitzer Prizes, seven New York Critics’ Awards and Tony Award which his plays have received to date.
