A powerful British drama in the mould of Ken Loach, director Daisy-May Hudson mines her own experience of the care system into a moving and ultimately hopeful tale of resilience. Molly (Posy Sterling) is released from prison and hoping to be reunited with her children. But meanwhile her mother has placed her children with social services, unable to cope. What follows is a heart-wrenching journey through the care system.

While it would be easy for this story to be dominated by sadness, Lollipop‘s authenticity shines through in the joy that Molly experiences along the way; tender moments with her children and the love of her best friend Amina (Idil Ahmed). It’s also a clear-eyed view of the impossible circumstances people on both sides of social services find themselves in.
