The critically acclaimed 2012 stage musical version of Matilda bagged Matthew Warchus an Olivier Award for Best Director; with his new adaptation of the stage play, we can expect the same energetic and enchanting songs (penned by comedian Tim Minchin), brought to new life on screen.

Matilda: The Musical introduces promising young actress Alisha Weir as the telekinetic title character who dares to take a stand against her neglectful parents and her villainous headmistress Agatha Trunchbull (Emma Thompson). With characters like Miss Trunchbull even more gruesomely fleshed out, the stakes for Matilda are higher than ever. But, with her strengthening powers, daring confidence and roaring musical numbers, she’s able to remind us who’s really in charge.  

 
Matilda: The Musical is one for the books, and not even the gruelling Ms. Trunchbull can get in her way.
