We are delighted to be joined by co-MD of River Lea Records, Tim Chipping for a Q&A at our screening on 15th April.

“A film made with real artistry.” ★★★★ The Guardian

A powerful portrait of Dublin and its incredible musical heritage, North Circular is a must for anyone who wants to fall in love with Ireland’s capital and the bands reshaping the traditional music scene. Following the route of the North Circular road, it captures – in stunning black and white cinematography – a city at a crossroads.

As well as moving folk music performances from some of Dublin’s best performers (including Lankum, Lisa O’Neill and John Francis Flynn) we hear the stories that hold communities together. Humane and honest, showing how place and culture are indivisible, North Circular is the perfect tribute to a gem of a city.

Tim Chipping is a former music journalist and the co-MD of River Lea Records, alongside Geoff Travis and Jeannette Lee at Rough Trade. The label began in 2018, as a result of Tim’s close association with the Dublin band Lankum, and is dedicated to releasing beautiful and boundaryless traditional folk music from Ireland and beyond. River Lea has released records by Lisa O’Neill, Brìghde Chaimbeul, Ye Vagabonds, John Francis Flynn, Sam Amidon, Poor Creature, and Ian Lynch’s Fire Draw Near anthology of Irish traditional song and music from the archives.
