Peter Hujar's Day
03 Jan - 08 Jan 2026
- Directed by Ira Sachs
- Starring Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall
- 76 mins
Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall star in this intimate two-hander based on real transcripts that finds the transcendent in the everyday. Queer artist Peter Hujar (Whishaw) is a chronicler of New York’s underground. He is interviewed by writer Linda Rosenkrantz (Hall) about how he spent his day. Gossipy, well-observed and somehow utterly gripping, we see each unfold to each other.
Ira Sachs, director of Passages and Love Is Strange, takes a hard task – how to make two people talking compelling across a film’s whole length – and makes it look easy. A delight-filled journey back to pre-digital New York with the edges not yet sanded off, and a tribute to the power of intimacy that extends between two souls touching.
