Polite Society

A high-kicking, laugh-a-minute British treat, Polite Society is the latest from Working Title (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shaun of the Dead). Ria Khan (Priya Kansara) is a teen with dreams of becoming a stuntwoman. But before she does, she’s got to make sure that her sister doesn’t make the mistake of her life, dropping out of art school to marry into the worst family around.

Directed by Nida Manzoor – whose We Are Lady Parts delivered an equal mix of laughs and female friendship – this lands an impressive genre-mash up of action and comedy. The fight scenes have all of the kinetic pleasure of the best of martial arts cinema, but the focus is firmly on the importance of independence and friendship.
