The Ballad of Wallis Island

In this British comedy, folk musician Herb (Tom Basden) accepts an offer of a single gig for half a million pounds in a remote island. It couldn’t come at a better time, as the glory days are far behind him. The audience? Just superfan lottery winner Charles (Tim Key), who has even gone so far as to secretly enlist Herb’s estranged bandmate (and former partner) Nell (Carey Mulligan) in an attempt to recapture the old magic.

Ripe with awkwardness but also winning, warm-hearted humour, ...Wallis Island has a terrific trio at its core. Tim Key – while bringing his trademark detailed charm to all the comedy – has a strain of longing and need as a widower trying to rekindle past joys. And Basden and Mulligan hit all the right notes in their charming duet.
