“The work of a genuine cinematic artist” ★★★★★ Financial Times
Debuting at Cannes, Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason’s film was heralded for its delightful warmth, naturalistic family detail and beguiling picture of the natural world. The story is of the separation between artist Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir) and trawler man Magnus (Sverrir Guðnason). Yet the impact on the family – teenage daughter, twin sons and dog – are glimpsed through charmingly indirect, often hilariously touching means.
Told in a minor key, but adding up to major emotion, Pálmason’s film is deftly edited and makes as excellent use of the Icelandic landscape as in his previous feature Godland.
