It’s now more than fifteen years since The Social Network, the searing story of how a college student looking to critique women’s looks invented the modern internet. But in that time, social media has turned from fun way to laugh at cat memes to democracy threatening, childhood ruining monolith. Now screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (stepping into the director’s chair this time) returns to this story. It’s 2021 and a Frances Haugen (Anora‘s Mikey Madison) is lead to whisteblow on her bosses at Facebook. Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horowitz (The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White) wants to share with the world the truth of how much Facebook knows it is causing social harm, but taking on Mark Zuckerberg (Succession‘s Jeremy Strong) is no mean feat.
Since A Few Good Men, Aaron Sorkin has a knack of lifting dry legal proceeding into gripping drama. With social media in the dock every day, it couldn’t be a better time to see these issues brought to life with a blisteringly insightful script from a modern master and the cream of acting talent on both sides of the battle.
