The Wedding Banquet

Lee (Killers of the Flower Moon’s Lily Gladstone) and Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) are a lesbian couple desperate for a baby but unable to pay for IVF. Their gay friends Chris (Wicked’s Bowen Yang) and Min (Han Gi-Chan) are at a crossroads too: Min’s visa is about to run out and his family are pressuring him to return to Korea. To avoid outing himself to his conservative parents and remain with the man he loves, he offers to pay for fertility treatments if Angela performs a green card marriage with him. All well and good, until his grandmother comes to town to supervise the ceremony, meaning they must maintain a lover’s pretence with hilarious consequences.

A remake of Ang Lee’s 1993 classic updated in collaboration with the film’s original co-writer, this has some wonderful observations of modern queer life along with a vibrant cast who nail the poignancy and humour of the original.
