Never Had A Chance is a British Asian drama set in West London, Hounslow’s Punjabi community.
Ravi (Amar Chaggar) struggles to find work, due to his criminal record, selling weed to get by. He wants more out of life, especially after meeting Sukhi (Tina Sharma). Drawn into a harder lifestyle by his friend Jay (Jayant Singh) to fund his hopes, he quickly finds himself in deeper than he could have imagined. When his family are drawn into cover his debts, the young lovers are faced with impossible choices. A gritty tale of a community rarely seen on cinema screens, Never Had a Chance shows your past never forgets — and neither do your debts.
Founded in 1997, the UK Asian Film Festival (UKAFF) celebrates cinema’s power to connect, challenge, and inspire. Showcasing award-winning filmmakers from across the globe, UKAFF offers bold storytelling that expands perspectives and deepens appreciation of film and television.
Returning for its 28th edition, from Fri 1 – Sun 10 May the festival welcomes diverse audiences to experience feature films, documentaries, shorts, long shorts, animations, and experimental work.
The 2026 theme, ‘Stories That Bind Us’, explores identity, belonging, migration, love, and loss, revealing the universal human search for connection and meaning. Through screenings, filmmaker Q&As, and special events, audiences are invited to engage more deeply with both the stories on screen and the creative voices behind them.
