Learning
The Learning programme at Kiln covers all work linked to educational settings, supporting students and teachers alike to access theatre through their learning environments.
Arrive Build Create, formerly known as Minding the Gap has been running for 18 years. We work with local schools and colleges’ EAL and ESOL departments to provide creative drama based sessions for newly arrived young people, which aim to develop creativity, confidence and engagement in the arts.
100% of teachers surveyed agreed that MTG improved participants’ confidence in speaking English
90% of participants surveyed had no previous experience of learning Drama
68% of participants last year progressed at least stages in language learning.
We deliver opportunities for participants who wish to develop their skills further, through the Arrive Build Create Trainee programme; a facilitation training programme paid at LLW. We also run Arrive Build Create Young Company; an intensive 2 week performance project for young people. We have a Resource Pack and Teacher’s CPD for EAL/ESOL teachers across London to learn more about Arrive Build Create methodology.
At Kiln, we believe all young people should have access to arts and culture and are passionate about making sure our projects and productions are affordable and accessible to local schools. Our Schools programme includes Backstage Workshops (behind the scenes interactive tour), Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for teachers, Teacher Previews (free tickets and show related workshops for Brent Teachers), Resource Packs (interactive education tools for each Kiln show to be used in the classroom) and School Residencies (bespoke longitudinal projects which are co-designed with Brent schools). We also deliver Fullworks, (a weeklong half term project which explores careers in theatre open to students from Brent schools aged 14-16) and Placements (in partnership with Further and Higher Education centres).
