“Broker explores the toughest themes with the gentlest touch. Treat yourself.” ★★★★ Empire
In Busan, South Korea, two men intercept babies discarded in a church ‘baby box’ to connect them with families in need. Are they human traffickers or making a humanitarian contribution? When one of the mother’s returns to the scene of abandonment, she threatens to rumble their scheme. Joining them for a road trip to find a home for her son, pursued by two undercover cops, they will all find murky complexities behind the rights and wrongs of their actions.
Parasite’s leading man Song Kang-ho teams with Palme d’Or winning director Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters) for this film that has a gentle heartwarming quality despite it’s ‘torn from the headlines’ premise. A tale of finding family in strange circumstances, it’s a beautifully observed drama.
