Debut filmmaker Pahar Panahi gives us a story equal parts painful and playful, trapped in a car as a squabbling family heads for the Iranian border with so much to lose. Grizzled Dad Hassan is trapped in the backseat with six-year-old son, as matriarch Pantea holds the wheel, literally and metaphorically. Their eldest son needs to flee, their dog is on its last legs, and the car is dripping petrol… Anyone who has driven more than a few miles with their family will find Hit the Road deeply relatable, despite the different stakes of this trip.
