Pretty Red Dress

Alexandra Burke stars in this London-set drama that probes what it means to be a man. Singer Candice’s (Burke) star is on the rise, with a role in the Tina Turner musical a cert if she can pass through the final auditions. But her love Travis (Natey Jones) is recently returned from prison, and her teenage daughter (Temilola Olatunbosun) is running off the rails. But they are all tied together by a gift of a stunning red dress, which seems to hold a strange attraction, especially for Travis.

The feature debut of London filmmaker Dionne Edwards, this is a brilliant examination of masculinity, told with tenderness and an unconventional eye. Alexandra Burke demonstrates her star power, but the newcomers and veterans in the predominately black cast show a side to the city rarely offered on screen.
