Rebuilding

Even cowboys get the blues in this beautifully told, thoughtfully modern Western starring Josh O’Connor (La Chimera, Challengers). He plays Dusty, a laconic cowboy forced off his land by rampant wildfires. His temporary housing puts him into a forced reconnection with his daughter Callie Rose (Lily LaTorre). He also must reckon with his ex-wife (The White Lotus’ Meghann Fahy) and his former mother-in-law (Amy Madigan, fresh from her Oscar win).

Rebuilding focuses on its lead – who brings beautiful, understated melancholy to the role – but it is also a portrait of a community who are also finding new ways to thrive in tragic circumstances. Based on the director’s own experience of a renaissance after his home was destroyed, this is lyrical, sensitive and humane take on the American West.
