Sing Sing

  • Directed by Greg Kwedar
  • Starring Colman Domingo, Clarence Maclin, Sean San Jose and Paul Raci
  • 106 mins

A truly inspirational real-life story of hope and newly-found grace, Sing Sing stars Kiln Theatre favourite Colman Domingo (A Boy and His Soul, 2013) as Divine G, a member of a theatre programme for prison inmates. Playing against him is Divine Eye, an alpha dog in the prison yard, portrayed by Clarence Maclin, one of many cast members who are graduates of the programme itself. Exposing themselves to uncommon vulnerability as they mount scenes from Hamlet, the inmates unfold their own stories, finding surprising resonances with Shakespeare’s tale of revenge.

A testament to the power of theatre and art in general to heal, as well as demonstrating the formidable acting talents of the former convicts, Sing Sing is profound, uplifting and memorable.
