The Last Viking

In this far-from-polite black comedy from Norway, Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, The Hunt) stars as ‘John Lennon’. The Liverpudlian musician is one of his personas, a consequence of the dissociative personality disorder he experiences. This isn’t ideal for his brother Anker (Nikolaj Lie Kaas), released from prison for robbery after fifteen long years. Worse than a Norwegian-Scouse accent is the fact that ‘John’ doesn’t know where he hid the loot for his brother back then.

Now the brothers must come together, break into their family’s old home – now an eccentric-stuffed rental property – and make good. While there are plenty of wacky laughs here, somehow the oddness feels authentic and generous.
