“Deeply moving tale of rural Ireland already feels like a classic” – ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆ The Guardian

Colm Bairéad directs this deeply heartwarming coming-of-age film about a young girl fostered off to distant relatives on a farm when her parents can no longer cope with the pressures of their growing family.

In her 9 years of life, parental neglect was a rampant theme, but her summer away from home gives her the first glimpse of a loving family life. It is during her time on the farm where she feels her first sense of belonging, and the once quiet girl slowly reclines out of her shell.

The Quiet Girl has rightfully become a heavy-hitter, winning highly coveted international awards. The film won 8 of 11 nominations at the IFTA’s and became the first Irish language film to receive an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film. Once the scene is set and the story unfolds, you’ll quickly understand the waves of acclaim that this film has generated for itself.
