Freely adapted from Virginia Woolf’s second novel, this period drama follows Katharine Hilbery (Haley Bennett) as she attempts to rise above the restrictions of a woman in 1920s England. From a storied family – her parents played charmingingly by Timothy Spall and Jennifer Saunders – she is trying to pursue her love of astronomy. But a mathematics degree at Cambridge is only permissible via a marriage to the foppish William Rodney (Jack Whitehall in fine, clueless form).
